GetVirtual Expands to California State University, Monterey Bay

GetVirtual, a nonprofit program is currently seeking student volunteers from in and around California State University, Monterey Bay to support local and small businesses expand their business online. GetVirtual is broadening their reach to serve small businesses in the Bay Area and Central Coast while providing students the opportunity to gain entrepreneurial and freelancing skills.

“As a student entrepreneur, I am stoked to be a part of this initiative! GetVirtual has created a pathway to connect students to their communities while providing real-world experience and opportunities that foster their entrepreneurial and technical skills,” said Kenneth Olsen, Chapter Co-Founder from California State University Monterey Bay.

Volunteering for GetVirtual is an opportunity to work with businesses directly to strategize and implement compelling and robust virtual solutions. These positions are flexible. Student volunteers are not required to have previous entrepreneurial experience and have the option to take upon projects that are of specific interest to them.  GetVirtual provides volunteers with training in:

  • Building a business model canvas, drafting business proposals, and conducting interviews
  • Understanding customer discovery, project management and establishing customer relationships
  • Designing and developing websites on platforms such as Wix, SquareSpace, and Shopify to match each business’ needs and values
  • Understanding social media engagement through the current marketing techniques
  • Educating businesses with tutorials and virtual tools to maintain their online presence independently 

Volunteers can also list a GetVirtual internship on their resume, along with describing the “hands-on” work they provided. Employers are always looking for future employees that show great initiative with practical experience. Volunteers also join a global network of like-minded students from around the world that are passionate about expanding entrepreneurship for good. This training process takes place via a fast paced boot-camp that enables and supports volunteers with the skills necessary to manage their own projects.

“Through GetVirtual’s intersection of social responsibility and entrepreneurship, I have grown as a professional, entrepreneur, and humanitarian while simultaneously giving back to a place I consider home. My hope is that new volunteers will share a similar experience,” said Nikhila Cherukuthota, Co-Founder and Project Manager of GetVirtual.
