Startup Company Feature

ScootScience Logo

Aquaculture’s leader in ocean analytics and forecasting.

This month’s featured startup company was a Venture division runner-up of the 2016 Startup Challenge Monterey Bay business competition. Since participating in the Challenge, they have made great strides in growing and developing their business.

Today’s ocean climate is changing and difficult to predict. Scoot Science identifies and mitigates ocean risk by monitoring and modeling the ocean. This gives their fish farm customers a unified, dashboard view of their coastal ocean sites and increasing lead-time for extreme ocean events.

Scoot Science’s web-based technology allows customers to view local water forecasts, identify extreme events, analyze historical trends, set conditions threshold alerts, and more! With this data insight, fish farmers can make informed decisions and respond quickly to protect their operations.

What have they been up to?

Scoot Science Co-founder, Evan Goodwin, gave us an update this past July during the Startup Monterey Bay Tech Meetup. Since then, Evan and his team have been working diligently on the following projects:

  • Preparing for Series A fundraising – The company has received increasing interest from multiple investors and making great connections to further grow their company.
  • Delivery of the SeaState Dashboard – In partnership with Grieg Seafood BC, Scoot Science has developed this software product to give fish farmers the best view of their local and regional ocean conditions.
  • Insurance product for fish farmers in Eastern Canada – Extreme ocean events, including super cold water masses that kill fish, have been long considered uninsurable in the past. With Scoot Science’s developments, insurers can have a better risk profile and model of the frequency and severity of these events.

Startup Launchpad logo

The Startup Launchpad is here to help entrepreneurs turn their business ideas into launchable, fundable businesses. Whether these businesses are very early in their quest or nearly to their series A round, our network of mentors and advisors, supported by our educational and training programming, can help them find their way to success.

The Startup Launchpad Monterey Bay has recently adopted an online platform called TrustedPeer to manage Startup mentor and mentee engagements as well as host resources for local startups preparing to launch.

The GetVirtual project helps businesses caught in the COVID-19 emergency to build their online presence and capabilities. Students working with the project assess the needs of applying businesses and create websites, social media, and other tools for the businesses to build their businesses in the virtual world. The service is free to client businesses and is aimed at businesses that lack the knowledge and resources to do the work themselves or hire an agency to do the work.
